Disney’s Race for the Taste 10K

Disney’s Race for the Taste 10KThe 13th Annual International Food and Wine Festival begins in a couple of weeks and there are a number of events on the schedule. While most of these events are focused solely on the consumption, education or simple adoration of food and wine, there’s at least one event that will have you burning more calories than you consume.

Beginning at the Wide World of Sports complex and winding through Hollywood Studios and Epcot, Disney’s Race for the Taste 10K is a unique race course complete with Disney entertainment. At the starting line, a ceremonial toast and fireworks will kick off the event, while the finish line leads to a post-race picnic with fun for the whole family.

Participants in the October 12th race will receive a collectible pint glass, goody bag and more. Most interesting to me are the food samplings from the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival at the post-race picnic. With the purchase of a picnic ticket, friends and family of competitors can visit the Taste Stations at the post-race picnic, too.

I’ve participated in both a 5K and 15K on Disney property and the course for this 10K is very typical of those past races. The first third of the course is nothing special, but after reaching the entrance to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the race will go by in a blink. I especially enjoy the stretch leading away from Hollywood Studios around the water by the Yacht and Beach Club Resort.

Registration is a little late at this point (you won’t be getting a personalized bib), but there’s still plenty of space. The cost is $55 per person, with the added option to buy theme park tickets at a decent discount. Picnic Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for children, and include access to tasting stations, a commemorative pint glass, and some kid-friendly entertainment.
