I’m hardly in the know when it comes to new music, so what follows is an amalgamation of two different press releases I received about an upcoming show on Sunday, August 17th at The Social. While the band’s name (The Gay Blades) is a tad peculiar, their music is quite good (see below on how to download their music for free).
Now, onto the article …
Trash pop - no, not Britney Spears - is what happens when two keenly observant wannabe hipsters write and record songs they couldn’t possibly pull off live, and make up for their missing bass player with consistent TNT like performances and a heaping spoonful of swagger. Called “retro-trangressors” by the Village Voice, The Gay Blades are a two piece from New York City, featuring Clark Westfield - who plays the guitar - and Puppy Mills - who plays the drums. The two met when volunteering in a traveling sideshow while still in college, Clark juggling and Puppy taking tickets.
This fall, The Gay Blades will release their debut full-length album, Ghosts, on their imprint, 4Never Records, via Triple Crown Records. They precede their full-length with a digital 7″ release through RCRD LBL which is out now and is available for free via the RCRD LBL website. Their T Rex/Bill Murray inspired live show, the “Touring the Dustbowl and Back” tour, includes a stop at The Social in downtown Orlando this Sunday, August 17th.
Check out www.thegayblades.com or www.myspace.com/gayblades for further info and to see why The Gay Blades wished The Eagles of Death Metal would just lift the restraining order already …
