The Pita Pit delivers

In addition to the burrito, there’s another sandwich alternative available to quell your lunchtime hunger pains.

The Pita Pit, with its three locations in the Orlando area, offers a wide variety of pitas and salads to hungry crowds throughout the day. At their Downtown location, the lunch hour often sees a line nearly out the door with loyal customers waiting to order their favorites.

With vegetarian options like Baba Ganoush, Falafel, and Hummus, or more traditional sandwich fillings like Philly Steak, Club, and Souvlaki, there’s at least one item on the menu with your name on it. My personal favorite is the Downtowner, with turkey, chicken, bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato and mayo - although I forgo the mayo and instead add the yogurt and cucumber-based Tzatziki sauce, which I highly recommend.

Much like the burrito, pitas are the perfect on-the-go food, although the restaurants have ample seating if you’re not in a hurry to get back to work. And their not just open for lunch, either, but as late as 4am on Friday and Saturday to catch the bar crowd on their way home from a night out.

Their locations are in Downtown (on Orange Ave.), in Winter Park (on Fairbanks), and on UCF Campus (on Collegiate Way). All of the locations offer delivery service, and you can order online at campusfood.com if you live in the UCF area. The corporate site states that they’re opening 2-4 stores per month around the country, so we may be seeing more Pita Pits in the no too distant future.

I highly recommend giving The Pita Pit a try if you haven’t already. You won’t be disappointed.
