Looking down on the thrill-filled Islands of Adventure, the first thing I see is the colorful Seuss Landing area. While I’ve never been on a ride or enjoyed any of the entertainment in this part of the park, it’s always fun to walk through. One day I want to be able to ride “The High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride”, which looks like the world’s slowest roller coaster, but is probably a lot of fun if you have kids.
To the south of Seuss Landing is the entryway to IOA, with it’s numerous souvenir shops and dining locations. Make sure you stop for a picture! To navigate, click-and-hold on the satellite image, and move your mouse pointer up the screen. This will walk you south. You can also use the controls on the satellite image to zoom in and out and move around.
Continuing south puts you on the bridge that crosses over and under the “Incredible Hulk Coaster”, one of the best spots in Orlando to just stand and watch. It’s almost as much of a thrill to watch the coasters race by as it is to actually be on the ride. Marvel Super Hero Island contains another favorite, too, with “The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man”.
West of Marvel Super Hero Island are Toon Lagoon and Jurassic Park, which contain some excellent water-based rides. In the satellite image, “Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls” is easily distinguishable, as is the area where you get soaked by onlookers after navigating the falls, if you zoom in all the way. “Jurassic Park River Adventure” is tucked back into the far southeast corner of the park, much farther away from things than you’d guess if you’re actually in the park.
Walking north from Jurassic Park, you’ve got an easy walk to the best ride in the park, “Dueling Dragons”. This area of the park, The Lost Continent, contains some eclectic stores and entertainment, but it’s really all about riding DD at least twice each time you’re there.
Heading east and back toward Seuss Landing, you pass by Mythos Restaurant, which gets excellent reviews. I’m still waiting for my first visit, however.
Islands of Adventure is my favorite park to visit when I’m looking to ride a bunch of rides. From the satellite image, it appears that there is room for a couple more rides, too, just north of Jurassic Park and maybe even one in the middle of the lake. I guess Harry Potter is going somewhere.
