Thankful for the holidays

Holiday SeasonNovember is always a great month. The weather in Orlando is just about perfect, football season is in full gear, and there are a ton of events going on around town for locals and visitors to enjoy.

But the main reason I find November extra special is that it’s the beginning of the holiday season. For me, that means Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s - three holidays that can pretty much shape one’s year.

To kick off this holiday season, we want to hear your stories of past Thanksgivings in Orlando. In fact, for the best Orlando-related Thanksgiving story, we’ll be giving away a $50 gift card to The Fresh Market to help with your Thanksgiving dinner shopping. All you have to do is follow the official rules listed below.

Before we get to those rules, I want to thank the manager at the Dr. Phillips branch of The Fresh Market, Scott Penton, for the donation of the gift card to our contest. After explaining our idea to him, he was on board immediately and gave us a “good luck” toward finding a worthy winner. We hope everyone is equally excited about this idea.

Onto the rules …

What to write
Stories should follow one of three styles and can be as short as two sentences …
1. Moments from past Thanksgivings in Orlando
2. People, places or things to be thankful for in Orlando
3. Thanksgiving “firsts” (ex. “First Thanksgiving as a married couple”)

Where to post
Stories need to be posted in such a way that they can be read by anyone visiting Living Orlando. For this to be the case, you need to use one of the following methods …
1. Post your story as a comment on the article “Our Thanksgiving Stories”
2. Post a story on your own website with a link back to Living Orlando
3. E-mail your story to holidays@livingorlando.com and we’ll post it in the comments under an anonymous name

When to post
All stories must be posted or e-mailed to us by 7:00PM EST on Tuesday, Nov. 13th, with a target date of Nov. 15th to announce the winner.

How many stories can one person submit
Any one person can submit up to two (2) stories. Any submissions beyond two will not be judged.

Who will win
The winner will be selected by Jennifer, Amanda and I through a voting process that requires us each to select our top three entries. We will then continually narrow down that list until a single winner has been chosen. In the case that the winner declines the gift card or if we are unable to reach them within 48 hours of notice, we will move down the list until a winner has been found.

Good luck to everyone who decides to participate. Feel free to e-mail your friends and family about the contest and visit often to read the stories left by others.

If you aren’t from Orlando, or don’t have an Orlando-related story to share, feel free to share other Thanksgiving stories and we’ll judge them just the same. Just make sure there’s a Fresh Market location in your area so the gift card can be put to good use.
