Following the Children’s Miracle Network Classic

The field has been set for the Children’s Miracle Network Classic presented by Wal-Mart and it’s time to pick our favorites. I don’t know about you, but I’m sticking with the locals and the young guns on the Disney courses.

First off, I’ll be watching some of the guys that I played against in my junior days. This includes Ryuji Imada and Matt Kuchar, both of whom kicked my butt head-to-head.

Next, I’ll be cheering for the Gators in the field. Mark Calcavecchia, Chris Couch, Brian Gay and Bubba Dickerson form a pretty solid lineup as potential winners of this tournament. Bubba played as a freshman on the Gators squad as I quietly hit balls on the end of the range during my last year at Florida.

After the Gators, I’m picking a set of younger players to come out and win this week. Bryce Molder, Ryan Moore, Sean O’Hair, Jeff Quinney and Bubba Watson would all make great champions. I’d especially like to see Molder and/or Moore to break through. They had amazing college careers and I’ve been expecting to see them in the winner’s circle a lot sooner than this.

As for my official pick: Boo Weekley. Central Florida fans will love this guy and he should respond well on a course that’s made for going low. Mickey Mouse won’t be a distraction for Boo.

Side Notes: John Daly is listed as an alternate as of 3:00pm on Wednesday. I’m guessing they’ll find a way to get him in the tournament. Also, Daisuke Maruyama should not be confused with Boston Red Sox pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka.
