“Welcome to Moe’s!”
I remember hearing those words a few years ago and thinking to myself, “Great … jackasses behind the counter.” Upon recovering from my bewilderment, I paused to peruse the wall-sized menu only to be presented with goofy names for otherwise common food items. Confused and unimpressed, I walked out. The restaurant was empty, so I figured I wasn’t the first.
A few months later a co-worker suggested Moe’s and I decided to give it another shot. One Homewrecker and I was hooked.
Nowadays, it’s not just the “Homewrecker” or “Other Lewinsky’s” at Moe’s that I’m consuming. It’s the burritos at Tijuana Flats, Chipotle and Q’Doba, too. The Tex-Mex places are everywhere and they seem to be the busiest places in town.
In the greater Orlando area alone, there are five (5) Q’Doba, twelve (12) Chipotle, fifteen (15) Moe’s and seventeen (17) Tijuana Flats locations. It’s nowhere near the McDonald’s, Burger King and Wendy’s saturation, but I think it very well could be in another five years. The food is excellent and the flavors are much more interesting than a box of over-salted fries and quasi-beef hamburger.
To be fair, the Tex-Mex restaurants are much more in line with sub shops like Subway or Firehouse Subs than those burger joints. Customization of your meal is expected and everything is made to order.
If somehow you haven’t made it to one of these places yet, I recommend that you try one soon. Start with Moe’s for the full experience and work your way around until you find your favorite. For me, it’s Moe’s in a hurry and Tijuana Flats when I actually have time to sit down.
Which of the Tex-Mex restaurants is your favorite?
A. Tijuana Flats
B. Moe’s
C. Chipotle
D. Q’Doba
E. Other / None / All fast food is evil.

A-C are all about the same. Never tried Q’Doba. Wish I could eat there more often, but something these places put in the spices gives me seriously bad gas.
The whole Burrito trend is another west-coast import. Compared to some of the Burrito stands in the Bay Area, Orlando is still getting the short end of the tortilla.

I like Moes but I like Q’Doba’s better. But Q’Dobas seems to be a bit more expensive.

Love Chipolte. Tried Moe’s but what happened was awesome. So awesome, in fact I wrote about it. (This is sarcasm!) And yes you are right, these paces are popping up everywhere and taking over Orlando as if Mickey called in for a burrito theme park! Thanks Chad!

Guys … Thanks for the comments … At least we all agree that these places are bringing a good option to the table. As for the authenticity of our burritos, I think a place like Taquitos Jalisco is probably a better spot to be looking for the real thing.

I like them all but Moe’s has the best queso. I think I could eat only Moe’s queso for the rest of eternity and be content!

I only know of one, but Poncheros on Church Street downtown is the *jam*.
They make the tortilla itself right in front of you.
