The scene is common in downtown Orlando - a homeless person walks up to you and asks for a dollar or two. You pause for a moment and then search your pocket for change. Not finding any you say “sorry” and move on. Pulling out your wallet to actually look for a couple bucks is too risky and the idea of helping this one person when there are hundreds, if not thousands, of others just like him seems pointless.
Just about once per week I face this exact situation. A homeless man and woman stand on the steps of the office building where I work and as people pass by the man says one word - “hungry.” It’s a painful word to hear. More so than any request for money.
But there is a way to help.

Rock for Hunger was created last year with the inaugural Music Festival to raise awareness about hunger and homelessness in Orlando, Florida. Since then, Rock for Hunger has created projects to help end the cycle of poverty by providing meals, clothing, education, and more to the homeless, and children in poverty.
On November 10th 2007, Rock for Hunger is holding “Rock for Hunger 2: Our 2nd Annual Festival to help End Poverty.” Featuring over 20 bands, great guest speakers, and much more, the festival aims to raise awareness and help make a difference in our local community. Tickets are only $10 and can be purchased at Park Ave CDs, backbooth.com, and rockforhunger.org. Performers include Sage Francis “Spoken Word,” The Legendary JC’s, Band Marino, Gasoline Heart, Cori Yarckin, KG & the Band, Milka, Social Ghost, Of Truth & Stories, and many more. Two stages will be set up, one inside BackBooth and another outside in the BackBooth parking lot.
There are over 350,000 people living in poverty in Central Florida. We should all join Rock for Hunger and provide help to those in our community who need it most.

Thanks for the shout out. We would also like to extend invites to anyone who is interested to our Monday night feedings at the Downtown Post Office from 7-8. Join in the feeding, spark conversations and pool resources to help change the lives of people living in poverty in our own backyard.

Really appreciate the support. A lot of people on the streets just need to feel like someone cares about them more than they need some money. We can all make a difference just by treating others with kidness, and donating some of your time to them. It’s important to get active in our community, and show that we care. If one person makes a positive difference in another persons life, the world has become a better place.
Thanks again - Peace - Chris
