Driving home from work last night, I saw my first pumpkin patch of the year. Located on Clarke Rd. about two blocks north of the West Oaks Mall in Ocoee, the 1/4 acre site was packed corner to corner. In the ten or so seconds I had while waiting at a stop light to look over the patch, I noticed a couple getting their picture taken with all the pumpkins in the background.
According to pumpkinpatchesandmore.org, there are at least two other pumpkin patches where you can pick up your bright orange squash (or have a picture taken). The first is Primrose Garden Center at 2635 Curry Ford Rd and the other is Seasons Garden & Gift, Inc. 1804 N. Goldenrod Rd. Both of these locations also have gift shops and other seasonal items to help you decorate.
If you know of or have seen any other pumpkin patches, please leave a comment on this post. I’d especially like to hear about pumpkin patches that allow me to go out in the field and pick my pumpkin right off the vine.
Finally, did you know that pumpkins are typically not the main ingredient in pumpkin pie? Apparently, since the flesh of pumpkins is coarse and strong-flavored, most pumpkin pies are actually made from winter squash (see note).

There is a really cute one in Celebration. Just head straight down Celebration Ave. towards the downtown area and you can’t miss it. And, since it’s within walking distance to all the shops and dining areas you could make a whole day out of your trip to the pumpkin patch.
