There is a lot of talk on Orlando radio and the personalities that do most of the talking come and go almost by the day. I wouldn’t be surprised if a couple of the currently on air programs were completely gone or significantly changed over the next year. For now, however, here are our favorites …

My favorite local radio program is the Shannon Burke Show, which airs weekdays from 11am to 3pm on Real Radio 104.1. The guys on the show - Shannon, SBK, Cabin Boy and Steadman - take a laid back approach and talk about whatever’s going on around town or around the country. There’s nothing overly distinctive about the show, which I like, since the other radio programs in town use gimmicks to fill their air time, especially in the mornings. The varying perspectives of the show’s members also provides for interesting conversation.
Unfortunately, I don’t get to listen to the show that much anymore since I no longer have to drive when I head out for lunch during the day. That was probably a good thing during the time that Savannah had joined the team. I don’t think there’s a more annoying personality on radio.
On a side note, my favorite nationally syndicated program is probably the NPR show, From the Top, which features America’s best young classical musicians. This program airs on Sundays at 1pm in Orlando.

Talk radio – it’s not for me. If I wanted to hear someone drone on with their cocky, (usually) uneducated, obnoxious opinion on everything under the sun I’d much rather have a mature, two-way discussion with someone I can respond to and debate with intelligently. Sometimes it’s hard to find actual music between all the chatter and commercials (and when I do find music why does is always seem to be Justin Timberlake?) but there is one spot I can go to find good music in good quantity – Real Radio’s Real Music Weekends on 104.1. During the week, Real Radio is all talk all the time, but on the weekends the station transforms itself into a great mix of indie rock, old-school favorites, and only the best of the current stuff mixed in as well. Occasionally you will hear some jabbering – in the form of an interview with some great artist featured on the station – but mostly it’s just the best of rock and pop played in heavy doses.
