Children’s Miracle Network Classic

This year’s PGA Tour event at the Walt Disney World resort is the final stop on the tour’s schedule. Unlike past years when players would be battling for a spot in the top 30 and a place in the Tour Championship, players this year are aiming to keeping their card by finishing in the top 125 on the money list. Better yet, their teeing it up for one last shot at at a win which brings with it a two-year exemption and a trip to the Masters in April.

The Children’s Miracle Network Classic presented by Wal-Mart, as it has been rebranded, will be played on the Palm and Magnolia golf courses during the week of November 1st thru the 4th. The tournament features a Pro-Am on the first two days followed by the pros only on the weekend.

Back in the late 80’s and early 90’s, my dad got to play in the Pro-Am a handful of times. In those days, the amateurs got to play on Saturday, too, which gave me the chance to walk between the ropes as my dad’s caddie alongside players like Paul Azinger, Bruce Fleischer and Davis Love III.

While Tiger Woods’ year was finished with him winning the FedEx Cup, the field for the Children’s Miracle Network Classic should include some of your favorites since many players will turn the weekend into a family vacation at the theme parks. In fact, the parks are a good spot to “bump” into your favorite players during the week. I don’t advise stalking, however.

As the tournament draws nearer and the field is finalized, we’ll update you with who’s in and who’s out. In the meantime, if anyone’s got an open spot in the Pro-Am for a former Gator golfer, let me know. My sticks are always ready.
