View From Above: SeaWorld Orlando

Today we’re looking down on SeaWorld Orlando. Zoom in and you can see the SeaWorld logo on top of Shamu Stadium. Zoom in even farther and you can see Shamu swimming around in the pool.

In the big white building directly southeast of the stadium resides the Hospitality House - the place to find free beer! West of the free beer and southwest of the stadium, is the colorful kid’s area of the park - Shamu’s Happy Harbor. Though this photo is pretty up-to-date, showing the kiddie coaster - Shamu Express - that was added in 2006, it does not include an aerial view of the three new rides that were added for youngsters in 2007:

  • A Sea Carousel featuring different marine life animals instead of the traditional horses
  • The Flying Fiddler, which is like a very, very small kiddie version of Disney’s Tower of Terror (minus the fear)
  • A tame rocking boat ride called Ocean Commotion

Across the water from Shamu Stadium are small buildings dotting the waterfront. This area of the park is cleverly titled “The Waterfront” and it includes a number of restaurants and shops, including a dive tank where you can see bikini or speedo-clad skin divers retrieve pearl-filled oysters for guests.

If you haven’t been to SeaWorld in a few years, you should definitely check out this new area of the park. The look and feel is totally different from the SeaWorld you knew as a child and you will be pleasantly surprised by what this modernized version of the park has to offer.

The northern section of the satellite image shows the oldest section of the park which features many of the favorite animal attractions - Blue Horizons, the dolphin show; the dolphin petting and feeding area; Penguin Encounter; the sea lion and otter show; etc. - as well as thrilling newer additions to the park such as the Journey to Atlantis water ride and the park’s floorless roller coaster, Kraken.

Behind the scenes
Drag the map such that you leave the park heading north-northeast and you’ll quickly stumble upon a construction site. This is the future home of Aquatica!
