The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra’s signature series, “Phil at Carr“, opens with its first of ten performances on Saturday, September 29th at 8:30pm in the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre. Titled Amadeus meets Sheherazade and led by Maestro Christopher Wilkins, the program opens with Mozart’s Overture to the Abduction from the Seraglio, K. 384. The second piece will feature the internationally renown Kavafian sisters performing Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante for Violin, Viola and Orchestra in E-flat major, K. 364. Wrapping up the concert will be Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Sheherazade, which is based on The Book of One Thousand and One Nights.
To get in the mood, you might want to listen to a few of the samples that the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra has posted from last year’s Phil At Carr series. You can also purchase tickets to the Opening Night Dinner Gala being held prior to the show at the Country Club of Orlando. By attending this event, you will also have access to a post-concert reception backstage at the Bob Carr.
I’m pretty sure that Jenn and I will be attending this performance, so we’ll give a review on Monday morning. While we aren’t classical music experts, we should be able to get some reaction from the audience and provide a general critique of the entire event.
