Celebrity sightings at Walt Disney World

Corbin BleuDisney theme parks seem to be a pretty good place to spot celebrities. In the six years I’ve lived in Orlando I have seen: John Cleese, Jane Goodall, Alan Cumming, Susan Lucci, Drew Carey, Bonnie Hunt, Kelly Monaco, Joey Fatone, Lance Bass and John Ritter all at Disney theme parks.

Mostly recently I spotted M. Night Shyamalan and his wife and kids at Disney-MGM Studios. Word on the street is that Shyamalan likes to share the “magic of movie-making” with his kids by taking them to the movie-themed park.

If you want to spot a celeb at Disney, your best bet is attending one of the resort’s many seasonal events. For example, Super Soap Weekend, ESPN Weekend and Star Wars Weekends bring a plethora of stars and star athletes to Disney-MGM Studios. These events also have meet-n-greets and celebrity motorcades, so you have a shot to actually meet the stars, too. Attending a performance of the Candlelight Processional during the holiday season also guarantees spotting a celebrity narrator (like Edward James Olmos or Gary Sinise).

Your best chance of spotting a major celebrity at Disney is to attend a taping of the annual “Walt Disney World Christmas Parade,” which brings Kelly Ripa, Regis Philbin and a gaggle of celebrities here. Tapings usually occur the last week of November/first week of December. Last year, Beyonce was the major star performer in the parade. Mariah Carey also has performed for the parade in the past.

Celebrity visits aren’t publicized ahead of time in respect to the person’s privacy (unless they are promoting something or are being hosted by Disney for a special event). There are always special events going on at the resort. You’re best bet is to ask someone at the parks (or at the hotel if you’re staying on property) for information.
