A taste of wine country in Central Florida

In the rolling hills of Clermont, just outside of Orlando, is Lakeridge Winery. Here you will find complimentary tours and wine tasting seven days a week. Much cheaper than taking a trip to Italy or Northern California, but equally entertaining for the wine enthusiast, and novices alike, these tours take you through a video presentation on the wine making process, give you access to a personal tour guide who shows you along a catwalk to view the production area, outside to the balcony to see the sweeping view of the vineyards where the grapes are grown and harvested, and finally on to the wine tasting. You can sample five to six varieties of wines, ranging from dry to sweet, and can purchase bottles of your favorites to take home with you.

The winery also hosts monthly themed events, which you can attend for a small fee. On September 22-23, the winery will host a jazz festival, complete with live jazz music, food booths and, of course, wine. The entry for this is only $2. October 6-7, a $2 admission will get you entrance into a “vintage” festival with live music from the ‘50s and ‘60s, a vintage car show, food and wine. A full list of upcoming events can be found at lakeridgewinery.com.

These events are a great opportunity to experience food, wine and entertainment in a beautiful setting for next to nothing. The daily winery tours are also well worth a visit even when there isn’t a festival taking place. Whether you’re a visitor looking for something a little more adult oriented to do during your vacation, or a local who’s looking to spend a nice Sunday in the country, Lakeridge Winery can’t be beat in terms of providing a quality experience at a value price.
