If it weren’t for the theme parks, the Orlando area would surely be known for its golf. From nine-hole walking courses to private country clubs that host PGA Tour events, there is an ever-growing list of places to play. In order to get through this list, I’ll pick a few courses each week to detail and provide a website/phone number where you can book a tee-time.
Public Courses
Metrowest Golf Club
Metrowest is a very fun golf course to play. Located on the side of a hill, the slight elevation changes found on the course are very unique to the area. The design is fairly typical to Florida golf - lots of water and bunkers to avoid, and plenty of length for the lower handicap players. For the money, it’s probably one of the better values you’ll find in Orlando.

Walt Disney World’s Magnolia Course
The Magnolia Course has been the main course of Disney’s PGA Tour event for many years now. Its very traditional layout and design make it one of my favorites in the area. Like Metrowest, there are many Florida elements included in the design, including lots of water and bunkers. Overall, there is nothing flashy about the “Mag”, as it is known, but the newly added length and the general playability of this course make for a very enjoyable round of golf.

Private Course
Bay Hill Club and Lodge
Better known as “Arnie’s Place” to PGA Tour fans, Bay Hill is one of the premier golf courses in Orlando. As one of the oldest courses in the area, the layout tends to be very traditional, with everything right in front of you off the tee. While there aren’t many surprises to be found on the course, that doesn’t mean it’s easy. Players must bring their best and have the ability to hit a variety of shots in order to score well.
Even though this course is private, I’ve found that it’s one of the easier private courses to get out on. This doesn’t mean you should call up the pro shop and ask for a tee-time, but if you keep your eyes open for amatuer tournaments or volunteer opportunities during the PGA Tour event, you might have a chance to play here as well.
