Entertaining the Kids

When you’re in Orlando and have kids, they’re probably going to be asking about Mickey Mouse, Shrek, and Shamu all of the time. No doubt that most kids will get to see these characters once, if not more, while there here. That makes them happy for a while, but soon enough they’ll want to be entertained once again.

If you’re looking for things to do outside of the parks that are kid-friendly, you might want to drive down International Drive and check out what’s available. There are multiple miniature golf courses, a Chuck-E-Cheese pizza place, a couple go-cart / arcade locations, Ripley’s Believe it or Not museum and, if you cross Kirkman going north/east, some shopping locations with kid-friendly stores.

In itself, “I-Drive” as it is known, is not a kid-friendly location. I wouldn’t drop off my kids (if I had kids that were under 18, that is) with a $20 bill and tell them to have a good time. There’s too much traffic and it would be very easy to get lost or to be lured over to Universal Studios or Sea World where things only get crazier if you’re trying to get in on foot.

So hop in the car and take a drive along one of Central Florida’s busiest tourist streets. In the worst case scenario that you don’t find anything to do, Shrek and Shamu are both right down the road.
